Product Description

Osteen is one of Egypt’s best-known export mangoes. It is harvested from July to September, with the main export window running from late July to early September. The fruit is oval to slightly elongated and colours purple to reddish with yellow shades as it ripens, which gives it strong appeal on the retail shelf.

Fruit profile

Shape. Oval or slightly elongated. The dorsal shoulder slopes slightly, the ventral shoulder sits a little higher near the stem, and the apex is rounded with a small lateral beak.

Peel. Medium to thick and smooth, with small visible spots. Purple to reddish with yellow shades at full ripeness, without a waxy bloom. The medium-to-thick peel helps the fruit hold up in handling and transit.

Flesh. Bright yellow to orange, soft and juicy, with very little fibre and a sweet, pleasant taste — suited to fresh retail as well as fresh-cut and food-service use.

Sizes and counts

Osteen is graded by piece count per 4 kg carton. Three counts are available:

  • 5 – 7 pieces — 800 to 570 g per fruit
  • 7 – 8 pieces — 570 to 500 g per fruit
  • 9 – 10 pieces — 450 to 400 g per fruit

Which counts are open depends on the harvest and how the crop sizes up in a given season, so confirm the grade with our sales team when you place the order.

Packing and shipping

The standard pack is a 4 kg or 5 kg carton or box. Osteen mangoes are shipped by both air freight and sea freight, so the shipping route can be matched to your market, arrival window and cost per kilo.

Carton printing, labels and barcodes are prepared to your specification and to the labelling rules of the destination market.

Quality and compliance

Gaara Export works to GLOBALG.A.P. with GRASP, SMETA and ISO 9001:2015, accredited through EGAC and IAF. Fruit is selected at the right maturity, sorted and graded to the agreed count, and packed for export.

Both. Air freight suits buyers who need the fruit on shelf quickly; sea freight suits volume programmes where cost per kilo drives the decision. Tell us your market and arrival window and we will advise which route fits.
